i'm a KITAS holder, tried to sponsor my bf a visa the last time in singapore but embassy there said that i had to be a wife or an indonesian citizen.

i even took the suggestion to write in the sponsor letter that he was my fiance but no go. got rejected and he came back in with a tourist visa. so i suggest best way to go is to ask a local to be a sponsor.

        1st extension of Sosbud visa

        Hello all,

In the upcoming days I will be applying for a 1st extension on my Sosbud visa and have a few questions to confirm information that I read in this other lengthy thread while also including an overview by Marcus of the extension process:

        1. If a copy of my immigration departure is required with this extension's application, is it required that I provide proof of an airline exit ticket as well? An agent processed my Sosbud application in Singapore and did not need to show an exit ticket to the Embassy, nor was I asked by Air Asia about an exit ticket when I left Singapore.

        2. If an exit ticket is required with this extension, does the departure date need to be in 30 days, or is 120 days acceptable (considering if I go through with a 4th extension)?

        3. My wife's KTP card (expires in 3 years) has a different address then the current home address - which address should I write on the extension application? For the original Sosbud application the agent in Singapore told me to use the address on my wife's KTP.

        4. My Indonesian language is currently only at basic conversation level, is it wise for my wife or someone who speaks more fluently to accompany me to the Kantor Imigrasi?

I hope these questions bring more clarity for others who will be facing the same process as well.

Following this post, I will submit another post of the overview of the extension process provided by Marcus.

        Gratefully,
        Andy

Andy, no, an Airline departure ticket is not required for extending your Sosbud, this is usually only, and technically, required upon entering Indonesia and when first applying for your Sosbud.

Your extension application should show the address on your wifes KTP, which will also match your original Sosbud Visa, however you should also be applying for your extension at the closest Kantor Immigrasi to the address on her KTP.

Definitely take your wife with you, and perhaps print out a copy of the official prices in case they try to extort you for more, they can be found here...

PS, get your wife to update the details on her KTP after this extension, it is an offense not to do so...

            Sosbud extension process

Per member, Marcus (i consolidated the original comments and added some of my own):

            1. No later than 7 days before expiration of the original Sosbud visa, go to the Kantor Imigrasi that covers the area (need to verify) of the address printed on your sponsor's KTP.

            2. Bring passport and immigration departure card (received when you entered Indonesia). Also provide addtional copies of documents listed in "Notes" section below.

            3. Ask for the extension forms package: Example: "Sosial Budaya , perpanjangan pertama (first extension)". Package consists of an Imigrasi specific folder, "Application for Extension/conversion" form, "Formulir Perubahan Data Orang Asing" form and maybe a sponsor's form (Surat Permintaan dan Jaminan): a standard form to fill in may be provided at the Kantor Imigrasi in your area, otherwise if not you can draft a letter following this example:http://www.expat.or.id/info/sampleextensionletter.html

Each extension's forms package is about Rp3500 to Rp10,000 (not official).

            4. Fill the forms: there is one form for sponsor to sign over an Rp6000 stamp (applicant needs to provide stamp) .

            5. Submit the request/application. Your documents will be reviewed and if everything is in order you will be given a receipt and told when you can return to learn the decision of your extension - on that date you will pay the extension fee (take a receipt), and your passport returned to you with extension stamp, or the Kantor Imigrasi official will tell you to return the next day(recommend returning in two business days to make sure everything is completed). Each extension costs Rp250,000, except Rp265,000 for the extension when they ask for fingerprints - usually the second extension .

Notes: Documents that need to be submitted with some needing copies:

            a) Sponsor's letter/sponsor's form (Surat Permintaan dan Jaminan)

            b) Sponsor's KTP

            c) Passport: signature and identification pages , visa's page , extension's stamp(s) page(s) , departure card

            d) "Application for Extension/conversion" form

            e) "Formulir Perubahan Data Orang Asing" form

            f) Double form with places to the photos

            g) "Surat Bukti pendaftaran Orang Asing "

            For First extension : original of a) , b) , d) and e) , plus 1 photocopy of b) and c)

Second extension : Same as the first , except 2 copies of e) , plus 2 photos (3cm x 4cm) - must have red background. No copy needed for f)

            Third extension : 1 copy of a) , 2 copies of b) , c) , d) , e) , and g)

Fourth extension : Same as the third extension.

The sponsor is normally not requested to be present (but having someone present who has a good grasp of Indonesian language is beneficial), so you can save time for his/her trip to the Kantor Imigrasi if you get the forms completed prior to the visit to submit request/application . I normally buy the forms at the "n" extension for the "n+1" extension .

Simply cutting and pasting the same post by Marcus means nothing to me, but then I'm tired at the moment, maby I've missed something...

                2. Bring your KTP, proof of bank account and fund in your bank account.
                3. The Kantor Immigrasi will then fax the approval sponsorship letter to Indonesian Embassy of your choice (you have to tell them specifically the city and country of the Indonesian embassy)
                4. Tell your gf to go to that embassy and apply for SosBud visa and she needs to tell the embassy official that she already have a pre-approval letter from Indonesia.
                5. she'll get her 60-day visa

She can extend it up to 4 times each month (total of 180 days stay) in Indonesia, then she needs to exit the country.

                Good luck

Okay, once she exits the country after the 6 months, how does he get her back in for another 6 months? A simple flight to Sinapore is the exit but what's involved in coming back for another 6 months?

I'm kind of in the same situation, except it's me that has to leave at the 6 month mark.

I am not sure of what you want , but this post by Daisy is not the easiest solution . This option was used when a foreigner is outside Indonesia and wants to go to an Embassy without a sponsor's letter . Even in this case , somebody already posted here that a photocopy/scanned copy of the sponsor's letter has been enough for him/her . If so , it is a lot easier to just go to an Embassy with the original/photocopy/scanned copy of the sponsor's letter , without the need to get Jakarta's approval first . About how to get the visa at the Embassy , bring two 3 cm x 4cm photos , the sponsor's letter , copy of sponsor's KTP , 2 photocopies of your passport's identification pages (one to leave at the entrance to get the visitor's badge) , one photocopy of the country's immigration entrance stamp in the passport and 170 Ringgits for Malaysia , or about USD 45 in other countries currency . I use to add a bank account statement in case they ask how i can live so many months without working and why I don't have a return ticket .

Unless I'm misunderstanding your position, it's simply submitting another application for the Sosbud Visa again at the Indonesian Embassy...

I first asked my wife about this a few months ago and her understanding, then and now, is that when an individual changes addresses within the same district the address on the KTP does not need to be updated until the expiration date and a new card is issued.

Well I picked up my passport today with the 1st extension stamp - hoorahhhhh, not a painful process and only about 90 minutes total spent over three days at KanIm Utara Jakarta! Aside from that, a little disgruntled that they shorted me by issuing a stamp for 28 days, but because I had to go without my wife today and it did not seem to phase the official who turned over my passport when I mentioned that it was not for 30 days, I concluded that my basic/40% comprehension Indonesian language was not going to win any battles, so I left peacefully.

Question though: as i wrote previously, the address on my wife's KTP differs from our current address - the reason we had to go to Utara Jakarta instead of Pusat Jakarta(closest to our home). Based on our future plans and needs at this time, we are considering to apply for my KITAS and wondered if it would cause problems if my wife updated her KTP(considering the Sosbud 1st extension was just completed), allowing me to apply at Pusat, or should we just continue with the KITAS application and Sosbud 2nd extension at KanIm Utara?

My two previous extensions were processed by a rookie to the Department dealing with Orang asing, and she miscalculated my extension on both occasions, luckily nothing much gets past my partner who promptly pointed out to her that she was incorrect.
The lady and then her Boss, who knows us well, both recalculated three more times, insisting that they were correct, they weren't, and in the end the date was changed.
Personally I would go back with your wife and ask them to change it. I believe that small victories like these not only show them you are 'on the ball' but earn you some respect as well.
I can't see why it would be a problem for your wife to update her KTP and then extend again or begin your KITAS process at Pusat which is more convenient for you, after all as you posted in the other thread, one look at the alamat on your wife's KTP and they sent you to Utara, after updating the address they would have no reason to do so this time.

Today, after looking at my passport stamp again I realize that my original entry date with my Sosbud was counted in the 60 day calculation, even though I arrived at 21:15 that day - I recall reading another thread where someone posted the same experience. As for the other one day that I thought I was shorted - my miscalculation - yesterday was a tiring day, so it was good that I left the KanIm peacefully...
