KITAS Status as effected by change of sponsor

    Here's one for you legal-eagles:

I've had the same sponsor for my KITAS since its inception in Dec. 2006, which at this point in time totals original plus four extensions. I might have to change sponsors this next time around. I was planning on applying for KITAP, but with a change of sponsors, does that upset the apple cart?

What are the ramifications if I do need a new sponsor- do I go back to square one with KITAS I or even sosial budaya? Can I apply for KITAP anyways?

    Thanks in advance.

From what I understood by reading the Regulation , I think you can change the sponsor , even in the middle of your current KITAS , or in other words , the change of sponsor seems to affect only the "blue book" (Immigration Control Book) .

And if you are eligible to get a KITAP , you don't lose that right by changing the sponsor .

See part of the Regulation below :

PERATURAN MENTERI HUKUM DAN HAK ASASI MANUSIA
    REPUBLIK INDONESIA
    NOMOR: M.HH-08.GR.01.06 TAHUN 2009

    Article 59

    Article 59 (Google's translation)
    (1) In the case of foreign holder of Limited Stay Permit change sponsor or change positions the provision of a Limited Stay Permit in question be done through the provision of a new Limited Stay Permit by not cancel the term of the previous permit limited stay.
    (2) new Limited Stay Permit as referred to in paragraph (1) a continuation of the previous Limited Stay Permit.
    (3) Changes that occur as a result of intermediate or transitional position sponsors as referred to in paragraph (1) recorded in the Immigration Control Book .

    Older Regulation
    Article 75 ** (Google's translation)
Status Change from a Limited Stay Permit into a Permanent Stay Permit as set forth in the provisions of Article 72 is given to foreigners who filed by the insurer after being in the territory of the Republic of Indonesia at least 2 (two) years in a row.

Thanks for such a comprehensive and authoritative reply, Marcus! This is good news. And I found the peraturan you cited at:

Great thanks, I'm thinking of changing sponsor for my KITAS Pensiun. The two years in a row.. does that allow for brief outings to other countries (without a break in holding the KITAS)?

Newgabe , I don't know . But remember , any minor doubt is sometimes enough reason for some immigration officers to make it a big problem .

Your question is not quite clear to me. But if you mean whether you can leave Indonesia for a limited time while holding a KITAS, of course you can. You have to apply for an EXIT RE-ENTRY PERMIT at your immigration office. There are permits valid for 3 months, for 6 months and for a year (even for 2 years now), but cannot extend beyond the validity of your KITAS. A 3 months ERP allows for one trip abroad, the other (MULTIPLE) permits allow for more than one trip abroad as long as you return before the end date of the permit.

I am a KITAS holder in Bali, where Immigration milks tamu like a herd of cows.

I am told I need to change to a KITAP next year. My sponsor, who was found by my visa 'fixer' and whom I don't know, charges me more than other KITAS holders for the privilege of being sponsored by him. Going into a 5 year KITAP, this would mean paying up to Rp 10 juta more than some other tamu here. My visa fixer says I cannot change sponsors. Is this true?

According the Peraturan (Regulation) I posted above , you can change the sponsor .
The problem may be that your present sponsor may need to agree (I am not sure) .
I would go to immigration office , get the form(s) to change sponsor at the forms counter , and go to "ITAP , Perpanjangan ITAP" counter to ask the requirements for changing sponsor . I suppose that if a letter from the present sponsor or the present sponsor's signature is required , I would tell the present sponsor that I want to return to my country and will not come back . In this case the present sponsor will give you a letter to get an EPO (exit only permit) , you return the KITAS/blue book to immigration ,... go to Singapore , Kuala Lumpur ,...and you are free of your present sponsor (your KITAS is also terminated and you will need to start a new KITAS again .

By the way , in this Forum I saw many posts of clean process at Bali immigration office . I think that as far as a person knows the regulation , there is no need to pay any extra to immigration officers , anywhere in Indonesia .

I suppose you have a KITAS retirement , so see below other agents for that :

I made a search in the internet about 5 years ago and found :
                1) For about Rp5 Juta/Rp6 Juta : http://www.mpp-travel.com/ (Bali and Jakarta) ,

                2) For about Rp6,5 Juta to Rp7 Juta : http://www.mas-travel.com/ ,

                3) For about Rp7,5 Juta : tourmaster5789@yahoo.com ,

                4) For about Rp8 Juta : http://www.bali-expat-business.com/ .

All are agents from Bali and/or Jakarta and the prices already included visa/Police registration services in Bandung , but do not include insurances (minimum about USD200/year) . I don't know any of them .

Hi Ibu Cat. I'm going through a similar process at the moment and will share any info I find with you.
