hi. went to imigrasi Jember yesterday to start a new KITAS,but all i got done was cancelling/returning my old MERP, ''ERP KEMBALI"..I left Indonesia for the second time on MERP but didn't return because waiting for operation..My ITAS expired on Oct. 2014,I have entered Indonesia 2 times on SOSBUD and once on VOA since then.....Now the guy at the counter at Jember(who was great last time getting Kitas) says I have to apply for VITAS in Jakarta not convert SOSBUD to ITAS...he said there is a new boss at imigrasi and they don't do ITAS at Jember any more.. How can we use imigrasi Jakarta for this when my wife/sponser's KTP is Banyuwangi..i hope they get their ideas sorted out before we go back on Monday....someone else said they had a similiar problem on this forum but I can't find it..

What is going on in Jember? I also heard from a meeting/presentation by the immigration services there in which it was stated that hosts should report their foreign visitors. So a bit like the former STM (at the police) but this time at imigrasi?!

isn't VITAS something that is done outside of indonesia? are they implying that I should leave the country?

yes, we were told this by immigration in Denpasar & by a couple of agents, immigration also asked us to use an agent but after confirmation on this forum that I didn't have to leave the country we just went back to immigration & asked for the KITAS application forms & nothing else was said.

I gathered from our experience that immigration is getting a cut from agents & VITAS is easier for them

yes my thoughts exactly! Especially with a new kepala imigrasi hoping to use old school tactics and earn some pocket money.. I'm hoping to find something to print out and take with me next week to show them there own rules

It was never been mentioned to me by the local immigration office in Jakarta. They never even mentioned or suggested using an agent either.

See Article 165 (2) a. below . Your Sosbud Visa is one "type" of Visa Kunjungan , and it became an Izin Tinggal Kunjungan when your passport was stamped by the airport/seaport officer when you entered Indonesia .

Sorry but if you don't make correct questions we cannot answer you well .

- When you say "cancelling/returning my old MERP" , I guess you are probably trying to say " cancelling/returning my old KITAS" .

- "ERP KEMBALI" and "MERP TIDAK KEMBALI" do not exist . I guess you are probably referring to the EPO (Exit Permit Only , or maybe "PERGI TIDAK KEMBALI" or similar) , or also a stamp in your passport named "Return of Immigration Document" .

So , if all my guesses are correct , Kantor Imigrasi gave you some few days for you to leave Indonesia , this may be why the officer suggested you to come back with a VITAS .

Giving you an EPO now is not usual (in similar cases posted in this Forum , Immigration just forgave the expired KITAS holders) , but it is not totally illogical . As you didn't get the EPO when you were required to get , maybe Kantor Imigrasi thought it is time for you to do it now . Be informed that this situation is not specified in the Regulation , so Immigration is , a kind of , using their power to do what they thing it should be done .

if the photo was uploaded you can see the what we needed to provide for ERP TIDAK KEMBALI...the form is similiar to other forms like ITAS etc. with a box to tick for whatever you are requesting,I didn't tick any myself and as I ducked as I across the road to the fotocopy shop the form was already submitted,also I didn't understand what it was at the time anyway...the pejabat didn't say we had to leave the country as I still had 30 days left on my sosbud,but he says this kantor has new rules that don't do ITAS conversion there, only from VITAS..We have an appointment on Monday so as long as my Izin Tinggal Kunjungan has not been revoked it should be all good..I'll let you know,,thanks
