Bank Indonesia Survey on Foreign Workers 2009

Just read a survey on foreign workers in Indonesia. I found it a bit confusing but you may be interested in a couple of interesting (sort of) facts. I received in pdf form so some highlights:
1. The number of foreign workers in Indonesia at the end of September 2009 was 45,384
2. 63% of those workers reside in Jakarta
3. Most are professionals(35%) followed by Technicians (24%) and Managers (18%)
4. The highest proportion of those workers are from Asia – China (41%) Japan (22%) South Korea (18%) and India (13%)
5. The majority (38%) receive salaries between 25 and 50 million a month. The construction and mining sector pays the highest salaries which were above 125 million a month while agricultural, financial, leasing and service industries paid below 10 million a month.
6. Biggest portion of expat salaries spent on consumption (49%)
7. The highest level of remittance was from Chinese workers while Germans were the lowest.
That's about all I can make sense of.

Sorry, I just checked and it said mining and extraction sector pays the highest salaries which were above 125 million a month. That's the closest they came to mentioning oil.

I understand you can get that service if you work on the North Sea rigs and go out without your trousers.

surprised at that, seems quite a low figure
but then again it is sort of "discouraged" for firms to employ expats etc
whereas in dubai, theres about 10,000 alone working just for emirates airline
not bad for a population of +/- 5m whole of uae and what +/- 200m in indonesia?!

I don't imagine the study includes undocumented workers

Updated expat stats

Hi guys,

Sorry for responding to such an old thread, but I was wondering if anybody is aware of any more recent statistics on expats in Indonesia. I (obviously) tried Google but didn't find anything useful.

Thanks,
Chris.
