Oh yeah if you like, makassar culiner is very good and famous. Especially its chinese food. They had open for almost 30-40 years and the food is delicious. For porriadge and noodles pangsit try ang ping lao at sulawesi street (near lembeh street) or kios 88 at sangir street. Red fried rice is very good at lombok street and ponegoro restaurant in ponegoro street but they start open at 18 pm.
nyuknyan or pork meat ball is famous too at bali and timor street. I prefer bali street for it more clean. But you must came at morning. Around 10 am and it will closed around 1 or 2 pm.
Famous bak pao and siao may can get at bawakaraeng street. But most food you can get at sangir street and the area nearby.

Anybody know anything cool to do on new years in makassar. I hear they have fireworks at losari but I have a feeling traffic is gonna be a bitch. And/or rain. Any suggestions let me know.

There usually event at hotel, pub or restaurant in makassar. They usually invited some local actress or actor. Rarely for international one.

yep new year at losari is reaaaaaalllyy full of heavy traffic. Recommend to just became pedestrian during new year for the road is really......;(
Even if you rent the car most of the road is closed during new year. I recommend you to live at hotel near losari or tanjung bunga. There are many expat live in tanjung bunga and there is trans mal nearby, the high class place for high society.
Also if you don't want to live in the city, you can try swiss berlen hotel(i miss spelling it i know). It good hotel and just beside panakukkang mal. One of the biggest mal in makassar although not as high class as trans.
aston hotel is avaliable too near losari and placed near gelael, one of local supermarket that import many goods from europe and usa. The expat usually shop there for it has more various goods than any other place in makassar.

Future reference for anyone looking. Losari beach area is the place to go. Streets are blocked off with lots of fireworks. I went to bellezza nightclub and they had michael jackson, lady gaga, and katy perry impersonator/singers. They were really talented and the prices were decent

was there last year. Lots of fireworks along the road by the water. A few hotels have new year packages. It wasn't raining.
