  • Spanish civil marriage to register in Indonesia?

    Hello, i'm newbie here.

My name is Diego and my girlfriend is indonesian and muslim.
We are planning to marry as soon as possible, trying to get the easiest way in order to be together in Europe (now im working in Belgium) with european resident card, visa for family,... i really don't know too much about this.

I will convert to muslim religion but...

    1) If we marry in Spain in civil marriage (no religion) how to register in Indonesia?.
    2) I understand that we need to report in indonesian embassy our marriage just after it happens. Is that the place we can report marriage under muslim religion?.
    3) Will we need to make ceremony in mosque after civil marriage to obtain "some paper" for indonesian embassy?.

I have readed many threads but didn't found answers for this questions.

I hope you can help me and thank you in advance.

Do you want to be Muslim? If not, then no need to convert if you are marrying outside of Indonesia.

Marcus will be here shortly to give you the details of what you need to do.

      1. You can go to "Lembaga Pencatatan Perkawinan" in your city (you ask the procedure&requirement in here)
      2. You can go to KUA (Kantor urusan Agama) to report marriage under muslim religion.
      3. No need.

        Thank you for your answers!.

But the thing is... in which step the spanish civil marriage becomes muslim marriage, ¿is it automatically in KUA office?, ¿in indonesian consulate in spain?...

I say that because I know Indonesia don't accept marriage without religion.

I don't know if i explained very well my question.

        Thanks again.

Unless you have a Muslim ceremony in Spain, it won't magically become a Muslim ceremony upon entering Indonesia.

Actually marriages performed outside of Indonesia have no religious requirement, whatsoever. Only if you marry in Indonesia are you required to be the same religion. If you are being told otherwise, you are being misled.

The Spanish civil marriage becomes an Indonesian CIVIL marriage when you register at Catatan Sipil. There may be a time limit (30 days?) to avoid a fine, and it is important to get Indonesian embassy or consulate in Spain to "chop" the marriage cert with an official stamp of recognition before you come here.

The Indonesian marriage cert is essential for any spouse-sponsored visa, including Sosial Budaya and Residence Visa with wife/husband as sponsor.

              (A) If you want , but it is not mandatory .

              1) First you register the Spain's marriage certificate at an Indonesian Embassy , in Spain . Then you register the marriage at the Civil Registry Office (Kantor Catatan Sipil) at the city where your Indonesian wife got her identification card (KTP) . See more details at the link below .

              2) Any kind of non-Indonesian official marriage certificate can ( or must if you want to legalize the marriage in Indonesia too) be registered at the Indonesian Embassy (see above) . This procedure has no time limit , as far as I know .

              3) You are mistaken about that . Marriages IN Indonesia must be religious , but Indonesia will accept your official Spain's civil marriage certificate . So your marriage in Spain does not need to have a Muslim ceremony , and you do not need to be Muslim , if Spain does not require it . Your Spain's civil marriage certificate is all you need for the Indonesian authorities , in relation to marriage's proof .

Thank you very much. Now I understand very clear. But as you probably guess, her family would like we have a muslim certificate of marriage, so my question is how to register the spanish civil marriage in KUA. Do we have to "remarry"?. Thank you again.

                  (b) ... how to register the spanish civil marriage in KUA.

                  (c) Do we have to "remarry"?

                  Thank you again.

                  (a) What about you becoming a Muslim , and having an additional Muslim marriage ceremony in Spain or in Indonesia ? Or becoming a Muslim and marrying in Indonesia .

                  (b) Although that , if you become a Muslim , it makes sense to register the Spain's certificate in KUA , at least one Forum member didn't succeed in doing that . At this Forum , I never heard of any member who registered a foreign certificate at KUA .

                  (c) Remarrying is not legally possible , as to remarry in Indonesia you need to present a document stating that you are not married .

It would be much better to just do a wedding reception in Indonesia. Smile, be nice, and just ignore the religious requirement.

Or, tell them that she'll be converting to your religion. Extra points if you're Jewish.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this in numerous threads on this topic. When you get the "chop" cert stamp from the Indonesian consular office in your home country, it must (?) be in the same "wilayah" as the location of the marriage ceremony.

In our case, we were informed of the cert requirement while on our honeymoon in California after marrying in New York. We went to the Indonesian Consulate in SF and they refused to do the cert. We had to mail the marriage license back to my father in NY, who mailed it to Consulate RI in NY, got it back with stamp, then mailed it to us in Indonesia. Sounds like a hassle, but it was mostly a matter of time and effort, no bribes or major inconvenience.

Has anyone else encountered this kind of administrative rule? For example, marry in Shanghai, try to get Beijing to stamp the license? Or marry in Madrid, try to get KJRI Barcelona to stamp it? Berlin vs Munich?

Hai, you can ask your fiancee to go to KUA and ask about that should be better if you get information from the source. )

                          hopefully it helps!!

Actually it sounds like he's a bit confused, and he should certainly know the truth and what he's getting into.
