  • Process after the Buku Nikah

    Hello All,

So it's been about a year after I got married in Indonesia and my wife tells me that she has to legalize the marriage through the Ministry of religion, human rights and foreign affairs. I applied for a Green card for her to move to the US and she will hopefully be able to fly later this month (I currently live in California). My question is, how long does the process take and is it mandatory? I was also wondering if it is okay to delay it another year.

    Thanks!

    I think there is a misunderstand .

If you are both Muslim and married at a Muslim marriage office named "Kantor Urusan Agama" or "KUA" (from the Ministry of Religion) , then it is already legal .

Further "legalization" may be applicable only if required by your country .

More details at the link below .

How long ago did you apply for her I-130? I think normal processing times are 4-12 months, and she still has to have a formal interview at the US embassy.

Yea could be. My wife says she needs to legalize it with other institutions since we will be living in the US because it'll help with registering any children we have etc...

It took almost 12 months for us. She finally got her visa 2 days ago
