  • Transport around Bali

    Hi!
I have read that,if you do not have a kitas (so, only the B211A) you can not buy any kind of vehicle (motorbike or car), so the question is how can you get around, I guess, renting, but considering someone living there the whole year, renting a car for thousands of dollars would be crazy. So, the question is, what does people to solve that problem?

    Best regards
    Miquel

Grab or Gojek works great if you aren't in the middle of nowhere.

They both have apps for your phone that you can get a car, motorbike or delivery in Indoneisa. Similar to Lyft or Uber in the US. Very affordable and easy to use.

          I agree with hawk1024 .

I guess , although risky , you could buy without transferring to your name too . After moving there you better ask the many foreigners who live there and use car/motorcycle .

            Thank you for your answers,
Actually, we will need also something to bring the child to school on a daily basis. Do you know some cheap rental service for the everyday use?

If you are going to drive yourself, you will need to get drivers liscense as well. Not hard but I think at minimum a KITAS is required. Maybe Indonesia recognizes an International Drivers License? Sorry but I don't have any infomation on long term rental service. If you don't mind going around by motorbike, it would probably be cheaper to buy a motorbike outright and then sell it when you leave. If you have a local that you trust, just ask them to register it for you. We are talking less than $1,000 US and maybe less than $500 US for a good used bike. A rental car may cost that much per month. It's not perfect for family travel but 2 motorbikes will serve a family of 4. I lived for years in SE Asia with just a motorbike.

Hi! That sounds like a good idea. I think they accept international driver license. I will check how it goes.
                Thank you

If the license does not clearly states the type of vehicle you are allowed to drive , I heard you need to go to a specific Police office to make that clear (in Indonesia it is the Police that issues driving license) .
